Enjoy home-baked cakes, coffees and teas, freshly squeezed juices, seasonal soups, tasty sandwiches and classic hot British meals in our new cafe.

The Castle Cafe, which opened in 2010, is next to our main entrance and has beautiful views across the Eye of York towards Clifford's Tower.

It is fully accessible to wheelchairs and pushchairs and seats 30 people inside and 30 outside.

Operated by the independent company, Elior, it offers a delicious regular menu, plus specials, between 9.30am and 4.30pm, and a take-out service between 9.30am and 5pm.

All food is prepared, cooked and baked on site, under the direction of head chef Jonny Thackway. For younger visitors, there is a children's option on the hot food menu and kids' lunch bags, which include a sandwich, piece of fruit, yogurt and a drink. Healthy fruit snacks are available, plus plenty of highchairs.

So, whether you fancy a bacon butty for breakfast, a British beef and ale pie for lunch, or an afternoon tea of home-baked cakes, come and give us a try! Remember, there is no admission charge to enter the cafe or the shop.
