Some of our best-loved and most outstanding objects feature in a new colour guide book to York Castle Museum, which is on sale now.

Our images show a selection of items included in the book, which have been chosen by our curators to reflect the variety and breadth of the thousands of objects in our collections.

Each image is accompanied by text explaining more about it and its history.

In her introduction to the guide, Janet Barnes, our chief executive, says: "We hope that this guide will be an enjoyable, often nostalgic and always interesting souvenir of your time spent at York Castle Museum."
