Chinese Reflections

China in Yorkshire

Textiles, tea and ceramics feature in this exhibition which opened at Chinese New Year, 2008.

Chinese Reflections explores 300 years of Chinese influence on everyday life in Britain, showcasing our most impressive Chinese and Chinoiserie items and looking at contemporary Chinese influences expressed by today's Chinese community in York.

The community is the city's largest ethnic group and has been in the city from the 1920s. We hope this exhibition reflects their contribution to York.

The exhibition was one of four China in Yorkshire exhibitions across the county during 2008, with the others being held at museums in Bradford, Leeds and Sheffield.

China in Yorkshire was a celebration of Chinese culture and its influence on Western Society taking place throughout 2008, the year Beijing hosted the Olympic Games

Events, activities and exhibitions were held in museums across the region to explore Chinese history, culture, science, art and medicine and to showcase Yorkshire's most stunning Chinese and Chinoiserie collections.

The China in Yorkshire exhibitions were organised by Renaissance Yorkshire, a partnership of museums, libraries and archives services in Yorkshire.
