Families

Castle Challenger activity guidebook

Our Castle Challenger guide book

Our Castle Challenger activity guidebook is aimed at visitors aged six and up. It works like a game and visitors can score points as they tour the museum either on their own or against family or friends. It costs £2.50 and is available from the Admissions desk.

Backpacks are available to take younger children round the museum, as pushchairs cannot be taken around due to fire regulations. A buggy park is situated close to the entrance.

There are baby changing facilities in the disabled toilet and the ladies' toilets close to the shop and also in the ladies' toilets off the Victorian Street.

The cafe has highchairs and staff are happy to warm up baby food for you. Picnics can be eaten in the outdoor Games Yard, which is off the Ground Floor close to the prison cells.

Photography

Photography for personal use is allowed around the museum, but the use of tripods may be restricted when busy.

If you would like to request permission to publish images of our collection, use them commercially or enquire about copyright click here.

What our Visitors Think

"I recently spent five weeks visiting historical sites, including museums such as the British Museum and the V&A, all over England, and yours was by far the best regional museum I saw.

Well-designed and with a fascinating display of things I can actually remember! It was great to see this more recent memorabilia as well as the much older artefacts from hundreds of years ago.

A fantastically balanced collection!"
