70 Years on: Your Chance to Meet Normandy Veterans

The chance to meet and talk to Veterans who took part in the Normandy landings will take place at York Castle museum later this month.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the biggest seaborne invasion in history, when the Allied Forces landed in German occupied France.

A number of the Veterans from Yorkshire are attending the museum on August 19 for an informal event, where members of the public can come and meet them to hear of their part in the landings and the war.

The event will run from 10am to 4pm and is included in the admission price, which is FREE to York Card holders.

It will take place on the second floor of the Debtors Prison side of the museum.

There is no need to book.

Faye Prior, collections facilitator at the museum, said:

“D-Day proved to be a crucial turning point during the war and to mark the 70th anniversary we are very lucky to have a number of men coming to the museum to share their experiences with us.

“This is a rare chance for the public to have a informal chat with Veterans from the landings and to hear their remarkable stories.”
