New Learning Resource Introduced at York Castle Museum

Schools visiting York Castle Museum can now benefit from the introduction of a set of new history hampers, to accompany a number of the museum’s school workshops.

Two sets of History Hampers are now available to book for groups to use during their visit based on two themes: Houses and Homes for KS1 and Victorian Childhood for KS2.

Groups using the hampers will receive a set of four, easy to carry, hampers, allowing pupils to work in smaller groups, enabling them to gain more from their visit.

The hampers have been designed to be linked to galleries in the first half of the museum and include activities such as spot the difference, question cards, toys to play with and drama prompts along with discussion points and things to spot.

Workshops that would link well with these hampers include, for KS1, Castle Life, Wash Day, or Queen Victoria’s Empire, and for KS2, Victorian Classroom, Queen Victoria’s Empire, or Troubled Times.

Sarah Mortimer, Assistant Curator of Social History Formal Learning, said:

“We believe that using our hampers, especially when booked along with a workshop, will add so much to your visit here it will keep your class chatting about what they have seen and done long after they have left us.”
