York Castle Museum Named In Top Ten Best Museums In The UK 2016 By TripAdvisor

York Castle Museum has been named in the top ten museums in the UK in the Trip Advisor 2016 Traveller’s Choice Awards. The museum entered the top ten for the first time after receiving thousands of positive reviews on the visitor feedback website.
More than 3,500 reviews are in the top category of “Excellent” with more than 1,400 in the “Very Good” category.
With the National Railway Museum also being named in the top ten it makes York the second best represented city in the UK after London.
Travellers’ Choice award winners are selected annually based on feedback from millions of TripAdvisor members.
Reyahn King, chief executive of York Museums Trust, said:
“We are thrilled to be named as one of the top ten museums in the country. It would not have been possible without the thousands of positive reviews we have received from visitors who have been to the museum and enjoyed their visit. For that reason it really is a fantastic achievement and we are grateful to every reviewer who has taken the time to make their feelings known.”
The British Museum was named number one in the awards, with four other London museums also in the top ten.
In March, York Castle Museum opened Shaping the Body, a major new exhibition on how fashion, food and life have shaped the way we look over the last 400 years. The exhibition has been well received, with visitor numbers increasing by 6% at the museum so far this financial year, compared to the same period in 2015.
Travellers’ Choice Awards
Established in 2002, Travellers’ Choice awards are the highest honour TripAdvisor can bestow. They say the awards are the “only travel industry awards based on millions of reviews and opinions from travellers around the world” and “reflect the best of the best for service, quality, and customer satisfaction, from hotels and accommodations to destinations, attractions, and even brands and products.”
