York Museums Trust Appoint Fundraising Manager

10 January 2017

York Museums Trust have appointed a fundraising manager to help the charity increase income for major projects, new exhibitions and events.

Rebecca Williams, 33, joins the Trust from the Royal Armouries in Leeds where she led campaigns to raise significant funds for capital projects and programmes.

Her role at the Trust will include submitting funding applications, seeking sponsorship and patron opportunities and bringing in income for curatorial projects such as research and exhibitions.

Among her first priorities will be supporting a major funding application to the Arts Council for National Portfolio Organisation status and to generate income for 2017’s Eboracum Roman Festival in the York Museum Gardens.

Rebecca said:

“I am absolutely thrilled to be working in York and for York Museums Trust. The diversity of projects and the significance of its collections make it a fascinating place to work. I am looking forward to generating more income to help the Trust fund exciting developments, events and exhibitions for the people of York and visitors to the city to enjoy.”

Rebecca worked at the Royal Armouries as trusts and foundations manager from 2010 and before that worked at the Ryedale Folk Museum in Hutton-le-Hole. She is returning to the city where she previously worked for York Archaeological Trust and studied archaeology at the University of York.

The new role is part of the Trust’s aim to further diversify and increase its income so that it can remain a key part of York’s world class cultural offer.

Rebecca will also look for opportunities to raise funds for key capital projects in the future. This will build on the £11 million the Trust has raised for major projects at York Art Gallery and York Castle Museum in the last four years.

Another key part of Rebecca’s role will be the YMT Card and increasing membership as well looking at ways to develop this. Currently there are 21,000 YMT Card holders, with around 50% from York. This equates to one in every 15 adults in the city having a card. The YMT Card allows 12 month access to York Art Gallery, the Yorkshire Museum and York Castle Museum as well as offering members’ discounts in the cafes and shops.

For more information on the YMT card please visit our website here or one of the attractions.
