Journey back in time to discover how Christmas would have been celebrated 150 years ago on York Castle Museum’s enchanting Kirkgate; the ideal backdrop for a month of Christmas festivities, music and cheer.

THE LOST LETTERS — A CHRISTMAS MYSTERY

Saturdays and Sundays 25 November to 24 December

A cheeky Christmas Elf has hidden children’s letters to Father Christmas! Follow a special Christmas trail and join in with festive activities to solve the mystery before meeting Father Christmas to receive a gift.

£5 per child, which includes meeting Father Christmas and a gift. Admission applies for adults.

There’s no need to book and the activity is available throughout the day.

 

A CHRISTMAS CAROL

Saturday 9 and Sunday 10, Saturday 16 and Sunday 17, then daily from Tuesday 19 to Sunday 24 December 

Join our Ebenezer Scrooge as he discovers the true meaning of Christmas. Meet Ebenezer under the garlands of Kirkgate throughout the day.

Free with admission, no need to book.

 

GINGERBREAD MAKING

Saturdays and Sundays 25 November to 24 December

Discover the traditions of gingerbread with special demonstrations of gingerbread decorations. You might even get to try some! Demonstrations will take place 11am – 1pm and 2pm – 4pm.
