Due to popular demand The Kirkgate Ghost Count returns for another year at York Castle Museum, as part of The York Ghost Merchants Ghost Week 2024!
Visit Kirkgate, one of the oldest recreated indoor streets of its kind in the world and the first to be opened in Britain. It is a detailed recreation of a Victorian era high street and features shops which existed in York from 1870 until 1901. Wander this atmospheric street and its back lanes and try and count the York Ghosts that dwell there.
Ghosts from York Ghost Merchants will be hidden around the authentic Victorian shop displays on Kirkgate and visitors will be invited to try and count them all. New for 2024, there will also be a small number wearing hats so be sure keep a count of those separately!
The three people who come closest to identifying the number of ghosts will receive a one of only three, 1880’s Shilling Dreadful Ghosts!*
A tally sheet/entry form will be available from the museum on entry with all the details.
This event is included with a general admission ticket, which also gives you access to York Castle Museum for 12 months.
*In the event that there are multiple correct answers, the names of all the successful entrants will be placed into a prize draw for a chance to win one of the three prizes.
